The RCVS Practice Standards Scheme (PSS) is a voluntary initiative to accredit veterinary practices in the UK. Through setting standards and carrying out regular inspections, the Scheme aims to promote and maintain the highest standards of veterinary care.
The Practice Standards Group (PSG) is a steering committee chaired by a representative of the RCVS and comprising representatives from all of the major veterinary and veterinary nursing organisations in the UK. It is responsible for the setting and reviewing of the Scheme’s standards, rules and inspection protocol.
Your Veterinary Management Group representatives on the Practice Standards Group are VMG Senior Vice President and Regional Organiser Renay Rickard CVPM, and VPMA Past President Rita Dingwall CVPM. Both are experienced practice managers who have been involved in the inspection process since the original BSAVA standards. Both can be contacted through the VMG Office with regards to Practice Standards issues. They are keen to hear any ideas or feedback with regards to the managers role within the inspection process, and are committed to ensuring that VMG members are actively represented on this committee. The VMG will soon be adding a database of protocols and advice for those going through the PSS process.
