This is a key role where you will be responsible for supporting and advising all of the veterinary practices in your area and providing a close link between our Clinical Directors and the central functions teams. You will also be helping new practices integrate successfully into the larger group.

You could be currently working as a Practice Manager or in the industry, in a field based role, or you may already be undertaking a similar role in a parallel industry.  With excellent people management and influencing skills you will be involved in improving operational performance, helping sites problem-solve and providing them with commercial acumen when required. This is a home based role with travel included and you must live in the Surrey or Sussex areas to be able to apply. Howells Veterinary Services is an RCVS accredited, independent, rural mixed practice situated in Easingwold, ten miles north of York.

We are looking for a focussed, dynamic and tenacious Practice Manager to work closely with the Directors and the finance department in in our rapidly evolving business, which currently employs 35 people. This diverse full-time role offers an exciting opportunity to help to steer the development of a well-established, family-run business, whilst assuming responsibility for all day to day operational matters.

Essential skills and experience

  • Relevant management experience, preferably within the veterinary or agricultural sector.
  • A dynamic personality, able to demonstrate strong leadership and personnel management skills, including the ability to instigate policies and communicate effectively with the whole team.
  • Operational management including Health and Safety, Security, IT and communications.
  • Strong administrative skills, and the capability to ensure the smooth running of a complex business.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience maintaining a website using a basic content management system.
  • Awareness of marketing techniques would be beneficial but is not essential.

We operate from modern, purpose-built premises, which house our well-equipped small animal practice. 80% of our vets’ time is spent working with, pig, poultry, dairy, beef and sheep farmers and we recently opened a new farm dispensary with retail premises and warehousing. We are looking for someone with enthusiasm, dedication and drive, who will engage with our talented team and help to further the practice’s commitment to excellent customer service and patient care.
